I wear 7.5 Medium but need wider toe area but my ankle is regular medium. Should I get size 7 WIDE?

I find that when I try on a size 7.5 WIDE in other brands, the ankle area is wide too, so the shoe is too loose around my ankle. I can't find the right combination of wide toe area to accommodate bunions with regular medium ankle. Please help me find the correct size.
